The complete cleaning process for these hand-woven textiles will take anywhere from 3-6 days. We will first come to your home to pick up your rug and inspect it. Once the rug is in an environment where it can be hand-cleaned and dried quickly, we perform a dry soil removal, using a variety of techniques to “dust” the rugs from the front and back. We then pre-condition the rug depending on its fiber content and soiling type to emulsify the soils. Any potentially difficult spots will be pre-treated with special solutions to increase the chances of removal and the fringe is also pre-treated for maximum soil removal. Next, we shampoo the rug. Most rugs are cleaned with an Oriental Rug Shampoo that is especially designed to get maximum cleaning while protecting sensitive natural fibers. Depending on the type of rug it will then be rinsed with extraction equipment on both sides or washed in a wash pit designed especially for Oriental Rugs. Once the soil is rinsed away, the rug is dried flat or hung to dry in a controlled environment. Proper drying is essential to avoid unnatural shrinkage.

Once the rug is dry, it is combed and finished with soft groomers made for specialty rugs. Finally, our cleaning specialist will give the rug a final inspection and release it for delivery. To best care for your rug after cleaning, we recommend rotating it once a year to ensure even wear, vacuuming it on a regular basis to remove dirt and restore life to the fibers, and using a quality pad under your rug to protect it from dirt, wear, and slippage. It is important to note not to vacuum the fringe with your beater bar; instead use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum to protect the fringe.
